Help For Hard Times
Because Human-ing is Tough Stuff
… as we parent our children, nurture our marriages and partnerships or end them, tend to our aging family members, and expend an almost inhuman(e) level of energy to level up in our careers.
Some of us have had mental health struggles that we’ve kept a tight lid on but are now exploding all over the place. ADHD? BOOM! Anxiety? POW! Depression? BLAM! Others of us have had our hearts utterly wrenched by the unpredictable tumult of loving someone who’s had their own significant mental health and substance abuse/addiction problems.
Changes we experience at this time in our lives are multiplying exponentially leaving us reeling in a wake of overwhelm, confusion, flat out exhaustion, and complete spirit depletion.
As successful as we are, all of us can find ourselves unmoored. Overwhelmed. Lost. Alone in darkness. Not knowing what the hell to do or where to turn to for support.
Thankfully, always, ALWAYS there’s hope to be found and help is right here.
You’ve been through adversity before and, honestly? I have no doubt you have the ability to overcome it again. Probably, you’re the type of person who could muscle your way through this on your own, but for why? Don’t prolong your suffering unnecessarily!
Find relief by availing yourself of an experienced, compassionate guide who knows how to facilitate deep healing and recovery.
Let’s be honest. If you could ‘think’ different thoughts to help yourself, you have the intellect to already have done so.

Not only will you have those in session, but you’ll also learn effective wellness techniques to use in day to day life so you can rewrite the boundaries of your potential.

Effectiveness comes down to personal preference and comfort. For some folks, being in a room with their therapist provides a deeper sense of connection and safety—like you can really *feel* the energy and empathy in the room.
On the other hand, video therapy offers the same expertise without the commute and allows you to dig deep from the comfort of your own home. Research shows both formats can be equally effective, so the key is choosing what feels right for you.
If being in your PJs helps you open up, or if having a physical presence helps you feel more supported, then that’s what matters most. Ultimately, therapy is about creating a safe, supportive environment—whether that’s in an office or over a screen.
In-person therapy offers the benefits of direct human connection, body language, and a dedicated space that’s separate from your daily life. Sometimes, physically stepping into a therapist’s office can feel like a ritual—an act of committing to your mental health. Plus, in-person sessions can help some people feel more grounded, focused, and connected.
However, don’t underestimate the advantages of video therapy, either. It eliminates travel time, makes scheduling easier, and offers comfort and privacy. Whether you choose in-person or video therapy, both have unique perks that can support your healing journey. What matters most is how you feel comfortable enough to be open and honest.
Absolutely, video therapy can provide the same level of emotional support as in-person sessions. I’ve had many clients who I’ve never met in person reach their goals. It’s all about the connection you build with your therapist, not the medium through which it’s delivered.
Your therapist’s empathy, understanding, and expertise don’t diminish just because they’re on a screen. In fact, many clients find it easier to open up when they’re in a familiar, comfortable space, like their own home. The key to emotional support is feeling heard, seen, and understood—and that can happen just as powerfully through video as it can face-to-face.
If you’re worried about losing that connection, remember that a good therapist knows how to bridge any gap and make you feel supported no matter what.
You bet! Many therapists offer a hybrid model, allowing you to switch between in-person and video sessions depending on your needs and circumstances. Maybe you want the face-to-face connection for particularly tough sessions or feel like staying in the comfort of your home when you’re feeling drained or busy.
Flexibility is key in therapy, and finding what works best for you can enhance your experience. Talk to your therapist about your preferences and see how you can tailor the approach to fit your lifestyle. The goal is to make therapy as accessible and effective for you as possible.
Privacy is a top priority, whether in-person or via video. Most therapists use secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms designed to keep your sessions confidential and your information safe. However, there are a few extra steps you can take to protect your privacy during video sessions: ensure you’re in a private space where you won’t be overheard, use headphones, and avoid public Wi-Fi networks.
If you’re worried about someone eavesdropping, remember that your therapist is trained to keep things confidential, and they’ll work with you to ensure your comfort and safety. As long as you take some basic precautions, video therapy can be just as private and secure as being in the office.
Building a strong therapeutic relationship over video is entirely possible and happens more quickly than you might think. The key is to be open, honest, and willing to engage—even if it feels a bit awkward at first. Remember, your therapist is there to create a warm, non-judgmental space for you, whether you’re sitting across from them or chatting over Zoom.
You might also find comfort in the familiarity of your surroundings, which can help ease nerves and allow you to be more open. Take the leap, give it a try, and be patient with yourself; building that trust and connection can happen just as naturally over video as it does in person.
Distractions during video therapy can happen, but there are ways to minimize them and stay present. Start by finding a quiet, comfortable spot where you won’t be interrupted. Turn off notifications, close unnecessary tabs, and set your phone to “Do Not Disturb.” It might also help to have a glass of water or a stress ball nearby—something small to keep your hands busy while you talk.
Remember, it’s okay to tell your therapist if you’re feeling distracted; they can guide you back to the session and help you stay focused. And hey, distractions are part of life. Learning to manage them is all part of the process, both in and out of therapy.
Holla holla for the myriad benefits of therapy for mental health! We can give shoutouts for improved emotional well-being, better coping strategies for stress and anxiety, enhanced self-awareness, and healthier relationships.
More advantages include providing a safe space to explore feelings and thoughts to let go of what you don’t need and find clarity around what you do. It’s kinda like a soft, gentle place to land to help individuals understand their behaviors and empower them to make positive changes.
And therapy from an experienced provider can assist in managing mental health disorders, fostering resilience (because it can take a lot of that to face the world these days), and promoting personal growth to level up in life.
This is such a great question because there are so many paths to healing. And so many different attitudes towards it, too! In Austin, TX, one of my favorite cities of all time, it seems like everyone has a therapist and talks easily about it whereas in my hometown of Janesville, WI, a goodly number of people don’t necessarily gravitate towards therapy.
I just *happen* to be partial to mental health therapy since it’s worked so beautifully for me that I became a therapist myself and see effective work with my beloved clients.
Therapy may be right for you if you’re experiencing persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or stress that interfere with your daily life. It can also be beneficial if you’re navigating major life changes, facing relationship issues, or seeking personal growth.
Please do consider therapy if you want support in developing coping skills or enhancing your overall well-being. If you’re interested, it can be helpful to go ahead and schedule consultation with a therapist to clarify whether therapy aligns with your needs and goals.
